Multiply! Equipping Today’s Leaders for Tomorrow’s Church

 
‘Multiply!’ is a training course for emerging church leaders which aims to help equip the next generation of leaders for dynamic leadership within the local church. It was developed from a need for leadership preparation in African churches but has quickly extended to meet other contexts. It began with 13 students in Leeds and new centres are planned in Birmingham, Ilford, Cardiff and, possibly, Norway!

The course is being offered at a variety of local centres based on a minimum class size of 10 students meeting monthly. The five modules will be offered over ten months; each topic taking up two Saturdays. The classes meet from 9.30am – 4.00pm with coffee and lunch breaks and are taught by a mixture of national and local teachers.

Each centre is responsible for administrating its own course although each delivers basically the same materials as interpreted by the individual presenters. This means individual centres recruit their own teachers although these will be vetted, approved and inducted, centrally.

Guidance on teaching the course content is provided for presenters to access and the notes include suggested PowerpointsTM and/ or other visuals. The only other requirements are a suitable teaching room with projector and screen. Toilets and facilities for making refreshments should also be available.

Course Outline

Two Saturday sessions on each topic:

  1. Bible overview and principles of biblical interpretation
    1. Survey of OT & NT from a missional perspective
    2. Inductive Bible study method focusing on Philippians
  2. The Leader’s character and spiritual life
    1. Materials for this section will be based on Gordon McDonald’s Ordering Your Private World
  3. Personal development
    1. Spiritual Gifts:
      1. Identifying spiritual gifts
      2. Fostering spiritual gifts
      3. Building gift-based teams
      4. Listening to God
  4. Communicating the Word of God
    1. Preaching skills
    2. Counseling skills
    3. Small group leadership skills
    4. Evangelistic skills
  5. Growing mission shaped Churches
    1. Reading the culture
    2. Responding to the culture
    3. Understanding church growth
      1. Numerical growth
      2. Spiritual growth
      3. Missional growth

Fees

The cost of the course is £20 per session (or £200 for a ten week course) and is intended as a complete package. For established leaders, attendance for individual days is possible, but it is strongly recommended that students take the whole course as it is designed to build up a complete portfolio of knowledge and skills.

Payment can be made by standing order, in monthly instalments by cheque or in one complete payment. The provision of specialist extension materials, e.g. for church planters, is under consideration.
