How to Apply (MA)

There are three points of entry for each academic year:

  • July at Summer School
  • September
  • January

The programme is open both to graduates and to non-graduates with equivalent professional experience. Please read the entry and study requirements before applying and contact admissions@springdalecollege.org.uk with any queries you may have.

The Admissions Process

1. Begin by registering your interest in this course. Complete either the ‘Application Request’ online web form, or the PDF form, by telling us some basic details about yourself.

2. You will receive an email within 1-2 days containing a full application form (PDF), notes on how to complete the form, and two reference forms (PDF). The reference forms can be emailed to your referees and completed electronically. Saved references can be attached in an email and sent to: admissions@sdcol.org.uk.

3.  You will receive an admissions pack in the post, including a copy of ‘Invading Secular Space’, written by Rev. Dr. Martin Robinson, two paper reference forms, two MA brochures (to keep or pass on) and an application checklist. Please read the application checklist carefully. It outlines the documents you will need to send to us to be considered at admissions board.

4. To be considered at admissions board, applicants must return all documents listed in the application checklist to the office, either electronically or as hard copies. Hard copies can be posted to the address below, and photocopies can be attached in an email to admissions@sdcol.org.uk.

5. Your documents will be collected together and presented at an admissions board. Successful applicants will be notified by post and email. Applicants must return the attached acceptance letter to formally accept their place on the course. Students will then be given access to online learning resources via Moodle, and a Springdale College email account.

Entry Requirements

Springdale College admits students to the programme of 18 years of age or above who fulfil the English language requirements* and have:-

  • a first degree, single or joint, or a Graduate/Postgraduate Diploma, in Theology & Religious Studies or a closely related subject.
Or
  • a first degree in another subject, and evidence of further academic study in the field of theology and/or experience in Christian ministry, evidenced by referees. The evidence of further academic study may be by reference or transcript from an appropriate institution rather than necessarily by formal qualifications.
Or
  • significant ministry experience**, evidenced by referees, may enrol on a single module from the course as an access student. Upon successful completion of the module the student can enrol for the full programme transferring the 20 credits gained.

Notes to entry requirements

* English Language Requirements: students for whom English is not their first language will need to pass an IELTS (or equiv) academic test at level 6.5 min.

** ‘Significant ministry experience’ here denotes work in the broad field of Christian ministry, over a period of at least three years and in a position of seniority which requires the training and/or leading of others. Such a position may be full-time, part-time, ordained or lay.
