Outline of year three topics of the B.Th in Mission.
BIB301 – Biblical Studies
30 Credits (Core)
1. Pentateuch: The Torah (or Law) is at the heart of the Old Testament and sets the missional agenda for Israel in the same way that Jesus sets the missional agenda in the New Testament. We explore the content of God’s mission or intention for Ancient Israel.
2. Wisdom Literature: This topic explores Job, Psalms, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Proverbs and Lamentations in the context of their significant contribution to the spiritual formation of people throughout the centuries.
L306 – Leadership Studies
30 Credits (Elective)
1. Missional Leadership: The Western world has often seen ministry in terms of pastoral care. We explore how we might widen that understanding of leadership to enable the church to be more effective in mission.
2. Mastering Change: Conflict is part of the normal condition of human life and of church life. We examine how to manage conflict as a creative means of developing genuine human community.
3. Advanced Youth Ministry: We look at a range of issues which will arise as a youth worker seeks to integrate their work into a broader long term youth ministry.
TH302 – Theological Studies – Ethics
30 Credits (Core)
In today’s plural world, any engagement with mission raises a number of difficult ethical issues. We explore the nature of these ethical questions and how we might begin to construct a framework that will help us to work with these issues.
DIS305 – Dissertation
30 Credits (Core)
The BTh Mission is an honours degree and allows students to develop their own specialisation(s) throughout the course which culminates in a piece of research expressing an area of original interest.
CMIN307 – Children’s Ministry
30 Credits (Elective)
1. Children in Society: The child needs to be understood in the light of the challenges of its life in its social context with the related pressures and stresses that are implied.
2. Leading Children: Leading children is a huge responsibility as they are the most vulnerable members of a large segment of society. Due attention is paid to offering them guidance without manipulating them.
3. Ministry with 10—14 Year Olds: The Raikes survey conducted in the UK has identified that 1,000 fewer 10—14 year olds attend church every week in the UK. This topic seeks to equip ministry which is effective on a missional level so that losses may be stemmed and growth in attendance may be enabled.
