B.Th (Hons) in Mission

Learn About Mission While Engaging in Mission

Our B.Th (Hons) Mission explores cutting edge missional thinking while you are engaged in mission and ministry.
The course provides practical, affordable and flexible apprenticeship style training for those currently in lay leadership or emerging church leaders. Created by practitioners with hands-on experience of mission in the western world, the course aims to enable leaders to transform their thinking, their lives and the ways of being church.

Listen to former student, Hannah Northcott, explain why she chose to study the B.Th (Hons) Mission with Springdale College.

How the Course Works

The B.Th is a three year, full-time undergraduate degree validated by Middlesex University.

The course combines study with practical work experience. Throughout the three years students undertake study at a Local Learning Centre, whilst also being on an extended placement where they work with their host organisation for at least 18 hours a week (during term time), focussing on their particular ministry. This gives our students experience that will prove invaluable for their first job after graduating.

In order to create a new mindset for mission the course uses a creative interplay between personal learning packs, student learning groups, written assignments, placement tasks and coaching support.

  • Learning Packs: Students are supplied with all the materials that are needed via moodle and a data stick. They use this to prepare for participation in a local Learning Centre.
  • Student Groups: An exploration of the learning packs either happens once a week or at a series of tutorials at a local Learning Centre.
  • Assignments: Each module has a practical written assignment that contributes 70% of a module’s final assessment.
Written class presentations are sometimes used for grading purposes along with the essay.
  • Placement Tasks: Each module also provides students with placement tasks to be fulfilled in a ministry context.
  • Regular Coaching: Students meet a coach weekly for general support. Three times a term individual progression with placement tasks are assessed. Work place assessment, including an electronic journal, contributes to the remaining 30% of the assessment in each module.
